Overview and prospects of the Chinese dairy goat production and management

摘要

As one of the main part of animal production in China,dairy goats are producing significant economic benefits for farmers,dairy goat related industries grew steadily in the past 10 years; there are about 12 million dairy goats which account for 6％of the total goat number in China.Leading dairy goat breeds of China are mainly white coat Saanen related although Toggenburg and Nubian had been imported into China as well.This review elucidated the history of dairy goat,functional goat milk properties,the dairy goat production and research in China,perspective of dairy goat industries was also discussed.It indicated that goat producers can work together to advocate the sustainable and organic dairy goat industry based on the unremitting efforts to develop the goat milk market,institutions involving dairy goat research could establish the close international cooperation to support the further development of goat industries in either developed and developing countries.
