    • 摘要: A shibboleth is‘an old idea,principle or phrase,that is no longer accepted by many people as important or appropriate to modern life’(Advanced Learners Dictionary).The discourse of Teaching English as a Foreign Language is riddled with shibboleths that distort our thinking and disrupt our teaching methods.The aim of this paper is to expose the shibboleths,straighten out our thinking,and free our methods from obsolete and mischievous ideas.

    • 摘要: Language learning is a complicated process which is influenced by many factors,including cognitive factors,environmental factors and affective factors.The importance of affective factors in language learning has gained increasing attention in recent years.Based on the affective filter hypothesis(Krashen,1985),this study mainly investigates four important affective factors,namely,attitude,character,inhibition,and teacher-student empathy.Through a questionnaire survey,this study analyzes the current situation of learning affections of high school and college students,and compares their influence on second language acquisition.The results show that attitude,inhibition,and teacher-student empathy affected high school students more than college students,and character affected neither high school students nor college students.The results provide some implications for English teaching.

    • 摘要: The Computer Network course is widely offered in colleges and universities.This course is both theoretical and practical.It organically combines theory and practice in order to achieve the goal of teaching.The main objective of the course is to train students to have various skills,including those of enterprise scale network construction,network management,and network maintenance.Influenced by traditional teaching for a long time,the existing teaching of the course in colleges and universities urgently needs reform;otherwise,it will not be able to meet the social demand for talents in the new era.This paper focuses on the practical problems of the Computer Network teaching reform and proposes some efiective reform suggestions,hoping to engender an efficient link among the Computer Network course teaching,talent training,and the social needs in colleges and universities.

    • 摘要: 2.Deep and Surface Structures There are‘hard’and‘soft’versions of this theory.In the hard Chomskyan version,deep structures are hard-wired into the brain.They are manifestations of the universal grammar that is thought to be common to all mankind.They generate surface structures-a process that can be depicted through tree diagrams.Deep structures are still language structures-they are part of the whole system which makes language possible.

    • 摘要: To what extent do culture and tradition influence learning at school?What are the difficulties encountered by Moroccan learners?How to handle this gap between teaching culture and learning culture?Student attitudes are linked to education and to the background they come from.Our aim is to understand the behaviors of Moroccan learners and teachers,to update them,in order to propose solutions,for to adapt teaching,pedagogy and learning to the cultural context of the learners.To do this,firstly using class observations,we will try to analyze the language behavior of Moroccan learners,as well as non-verbal and para-verbal language.All this,with a single target:to develop appropriate suggestions or approaches,within a contextualized teaching/learning.

    • 摘要: Here the teaching of grammar will be considered in two contexts:that of the foreign language and that of the mother tongue,but precedence will be given to the former.This is not to imply that the latter is unimportant.However,it is simply a fact that there has been more debate,on an international scale,about grammar in foreign language teaching than about the teaching of grammar in the mother tongue setting,in regard to which there is room for many more contributions.

    • 摘要: Material Mechanics is an important subject for science and engineering students in vocational colleges.However,its teaching effect has not been up to par for a long time.In order to improve the teaching quality,this paper discusses four problems existing in the teaching of Material Mechanics and proposes corresponding countermeasures.Rich animations and Mises stress nephograms can be formed using new techniques,such as finite element simulation,making it easier for students to understand abstract concepts.The introduction of engineering-related cases can enhance students’interest,and students’hands-on skills and innovation can be improved with open mechanics laboratory.The suggestions are worthy of reference and should be flexibly applied to the teaching of Material Mechanics.

    • 摘要: Background: Happiness varies across the life course in a U shape, with the least happiness in mid-life during the working years. Therefore, choosing a career may be an important factor in life’s happiness. However, the relationship between the career selection process and happiness remains unclear. Methods: We surveyed 805 schoolteachers, office workers, and nurses from an available marketing database using an ad hoc questionnaire assessing happiness and career selection type. Results and Discussion: We found that happiness was significantly greater among schoolteachers and nurses than for office workers in Japan. Furthermore, among schoolteachers and office workers, an evasive/avoidance type of career-selection process had an unfavorable effect on happiness. However, among nurses, no such association was observed. Conclusion: Paying attention to the career-selection process may be helpful to improve happiness.
