In this work, the mass stopping power and range of protons in biological human body tissues (ovary, lung and breast) were calculated at the energy ranging from 0.04 MeV to 200 MeV using the MATLAB Program. The data relating to the densities, average atomic number to mass number and excitation energy for the present tissues were collected from ICRU Report 46. The mass stopping power was calculated by the Bethe formula. Moreover, the simple integration (continuous slowing down approximation) method was employed for calculating protons range at the tissues. The results of the mass stopping power versus energy and the range versus energy were presented graphically and the empirical formulae for calculating the mass stopping power and the ranges were obtained. The present results for mass stopping powers and ranges were compared with the results obtained by others. Good agreements were found between them, especially at the energy ranging from 3 to 200 MeV.

In this work, the electronic mass stopping power and the range of protons in some biological human body parts (Water, Muscle, Skeletal and Bone, Cortical) were calculated in the energy range of protons 0.04 to 200 MeV using the theory of Bethe-Bloch formula as giving in the references. All these calculations were done using Matlab program. The data related to the densities, average atomic number to mass number and excitation energies for the present tissues and substances were collected from ICRU Report 44 (1989). The present results for electronic mass stopping powers and ranges were compared with the data of PSTAR and good agreements were found between them, especially at energies between 1 - 200 MeV for stopping power and 4 - 200 MeV for the range. Also in this study, several important quantities in the field of radiation, such as thickness, linear energy transfer (LET), absorbed dose, equivalent dose, and effective dose of the protons in the given biological human body parts were calculated at protons energy 0.04 - 200 MeV.

Inspired by Benjamini et al.(2010) and Windisch(2010),we consider the entropy of the random walk ranges Rn formed by the first n steps of a random walk S on a discrete group.In this setting,we show the existence of hR:=limn→∞H(Rn)/n called the asymptotic entropy of the ranges.A sample version of the above statement in the sense of Shannon(1948) is also proved.This answers a question raised by Windisch(2010).We also present a systematic characterization of the vanishing asymptotic entropy of the ranges.Particularly,we show that hR=0 if and only if the random walk either is recurrent or escapes to negative infinity without left jump.By introducing the weighted digraphs Γn formed by the underlying random walk,we can characterize the recurrence property of S as the vanishing property of the quantity limn→∞H(Γn)/n,which is an analogue of hR.

BACKGROUND Liver cirrhosis is a significant source of morbidity and mortality worldwide.The disease is usually indolent and asymptomatic early in its course while many cirrhotic patients are diagnosed late when severe complications occur.A major challenge is to diagnose advanced fibrosis as early as possible,using simple and non-invasive diagnostics tools.Thrombocytopenia represents advanced fibrosis and portal hypertension(HTN)and most non-invasive scores that predict liver fibrosis incorporate platelets as a strong risk factor.However,little is known about the association between longitudinal changes in platelet counts(PTC),when still within the normal range,and the risk of cirrhosis.AIM To explore whether platelet counts trajectories over time,can predict advanced liver fibrosis across the different etiologies of liver diseases.METHODS A nested case-control study utilizing a large computerized database.Cirrhosis cases(n=5258)were compared to controls(n=15744)matched for age and sex at a ratio of 1:3.All participants had multiple laboratory measurements prior to enrollment.We calculated the trends of PTC,liver enzymes,bilirubin,international normalized ratio,albumin and fibrosis scores(fibrosis-4 and aspartate transaminase-to-platelet ratio index)throughout the preceding 20 years prior to cirrhosis diagnosis compared to healthy controls.The association between PTC,cirrhosis complications and fibrosis scores prior to cirrhosis diagnosis was investigated.RESULTS The mean age in both groups was 56(SD 15.8).Cirrhotic patients were more likely to be smokers,diabetic with chronic kidney disease and had a higher prevalence of HTN.The leading cirrhosis etiologies were viral,alcoholic and fatty liver disease.The mean PTC decreased from 240000/μL to 190000/μL up to 15 years prior to cirrhosis diagnosis compared to controls who’s PTC remained stable around the values of 240000/μL.This trend was consistent regardless of sex,cirrhosis etiology and was more pronounced in patients who developed varices and ascites.Compared to controls whose values remained in the normal range,in the cirrhosis group aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase,increased from 40 U/L to 75 U/L and FIB-4 increased gradually from 1.3 to 3 prior to cirrhosis diagnosis.In multivariable regression analysis,a decrease of 50 units in PTC was associated with 1.3 times odds of cirrhosis(95%CI 1.25-1.35).CONCLUSION In the preceding years before the diagnosis of cirrhosis,there is a progressive decline in PTC,within the normal range,matched to a gradual increase in fibrosis scores.

Vocabulary teaching is a most significant part of language education.However,the effect of English vocabulary teaching in most Chinese universities is not very satisfactory.This study aims to explore the use of corpora,Range,and cooperative learning models in English vocabulary teaching in Chinese higher education.For that purpose,we shall firstly work out a revised list of words to learn for the students with the help of famous corpora and Range.Then,cooperative learning models can be employed to best motivate students in the vocabulary learning process.
