Disclosed are a method and apparatus for quantifying mental stress using biosignal-based measurement of discomfort and emotional arousal. According to an embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a method for quantifying mental stress using biosignal-based measurement of discomfort and emotional arousal, comprising: measuring emotional arousal associated with brain waves of a subject; measuring the degree of pleasure-discomfort for the subject; and when the emotional arousal level changes in the same direction as the physical arousal level associated with the subject's autonomic nervous system, evaluating the mental stress of the subject using the emotional arousal level and the pleasure-discomfort degree.
