A system using sensing is provided. Machine learning (ML) algorithms, including neural networks, can be used to provide and / or report on monitored / detected arterial road conditions. As a further advantage, systems, methods and configurations for fiber optic sensing for arterial road maintenance can operate in-service continuously in real time over the long term, with additional deployment costs or communication traffic.
