Provided is a zinc oxide powder for producing a zinc oxide sintered body in which a reduction in mass during sintering is suppressed. This zinc oxide powder contains the metallic element M, and the following condition 1 or condition 2 is satisfy|filled. (Condition 1) The metal element M is at least one metal element M1-1 selected from the group consisting of Bi, Co, Cr, Cu, In, Ni, Mn and Sb, or the metal element M1-1; Combination of metal element M2 which is at least 1 type selected from the group which consists of Al and Ga, and content of the said metal element M is 10 mol ppm or more and 10 mol% or less. (Condition 2) The metal element M is at least one selected from the group consisting of Ba, Ce, La, Nb, Pr and Sr, a metal element M1-2, or the metal element M1-2 and the metal element M2 combination, and the content of the metal element M is 10 mol ppm or more and 2 mol % or less.
