A contact device for an eye examination instrument is positioned between the eye being examined and a portion of the eye examination instrument, the portion being directed towards the eye being examined. The contact device is disposable, biocompatible with the skin, and made of a biodegradable material. A first side of the contact device is configured to contact the skin around the eye being examined. A second side of the contact device is attached to a corresponding portion of the eye examination instrument in a tamper-free and tool-less manner, the attachment being detachable from one end that is guided towards the eye being examined.
