METHOD AND SYSTEM USING THE DIFFERENCE OF LONG-TERM CORRELATIONS BETWEEN THE LEFT AND RIGHT CHANNELS FOR DOWNMIXING IN THE TIME DOMAIN OF A STEREOPHONIC AUDIO SIGNAL INTO A PRIMARY CHANNEL AND A SECONDARY CHANNEL
FIELD: acoustics.;SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to encoding of stereophonic sound, in particular, to encoding of stereophonic speech and/or audio, capable of creating good stereophonic quality in a complex audio scene at a low bit rate and low latency. In the claimed method for encoding a stereophonic audio signal for downmixing in the time domain of the right and left channels of the input stereophonic audio signal into a primary channel and a secondary channel, the normalised correlations of the left channel and the right channel relative to the monophonic version of the audio signal are determined. The differences of long-term correlations are determined based on the normalised correlation of the left channel and the normalised correlation of the right channel. The difference in long-term correlations is converted into a β coefficient. The left and right channels are mixed to form the primary and secondary channels using the β coefficient, wherein the β coefficient determines the corresponding contributions of the left and right channels to the formation of the primary and secondary channels.;EFFECT: significant improvement in the quality and intelligibility of stereophonic speech for complex audio scenes at bit rates lower than the bit rates used in the dual monophonic approach.;32 cl, 18 dwg
