The invention concerns a process for optimising an electrical system, in particular an electric machine, an electrochemical storage device or an electrical circuit, by means of a particle swarm optimisation algorithm (1),where a model of the electrical system with a majority of system-specific model parameters is represented in the particle swarm optimization algorithm (1) and at least one of the model parameters is selected as the size to be optimized, where the particle swarm optimization algorithm (1) is iterative and has a virtual fixed search space (2) and a real dynamic search space (3) for the particles, which is changed at each iteration step, and those particles of the particle swarm, which do not meet a predefined performance criterion,be removed from the particle swarm optimization algorithm (1) before performing a next iteration step.
