How to provide a route or route duration for a move from a source location to a target location and a computer system

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for calculating a route of a transportation system passenger, a computer system for implementing and executing the method, and a computer service product. A method of creating a route plan in a transportation system receives a route requirement including a start location and an end location. This method builds a model of the transportation system from data on vehicles. This model abstracts the "expected movement" between two locations, using a vehicle that can move between the two locations and one of a variety of walking options. The method uses any of the above options to determine the expected minimum travel time based on the expected waiting time and boarding time for the vehicle. This method combines expectations for different locations in an extensible way. As a result, a route plan that achieves the shortest expected travel time and meets other requirements is calculated for one of the largest metropolitan areas currently in existence.
