The present invention relates to a method and a production plant for the industrial production of a fibre-reinforce aerogel composite material, more particularly a thermal or acoustic insulation element. A sol is provided in a solvent, fibre material in the form of a fibre scrim, fibre fabric, fibre mat or the like is provided, gelling of the sol is started by adding an acid or a base, and the fibre material provided is impregnated with the sol. After gelling of the sol and ageing of the gel, the latter is, optionally after a solvent exchange, hydrophobised and then subcritically dried. According to the invention, the fibre material is provided in a flexible bag which has an opening and is intended for one-time use and is saturated with the sol which has already been activated. The thermal insulation elements produced according to the method have a coefficient of thermal conductivity of < 20 mW / mK and preferably < 18 mW / mK.
