Provided is a method for assessing the risk of a severe dermal drug adverse event (SCAR) induced by a disease-modifying antirheumatic drug, wherein the severe dermal drug adverse event is Stevenson-Johnson syndrome (SJS), toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) and eosinophilia and drug rush with systemic symptoms (DRESS). Also provided are detection kits for assessing a skin drug adverse event in a subject comprising reagents for determining a particular HLA allele and use of the detection kit in assessing the risk of developing a skin drug adverse event in a subject.
