The present invention relates to a method for smoking an alcoholic beverage, which comprises at least the following steps: a) providing at least one fermented distillate with a desired alcohol content; b) placing the at least one distillate in a container, leaving an empty space above the liquid level of the distillate; c) injecting smoke into the empty space in the container to make contact with the at least one distillate; d) resting the container for a desired period of time between 12 and 24 hours; and e) tasting and, by means of the senses, rating the at least one smoked and rested distillate, and, if the sensory rating indicates insufficient smoking, repeating steps 2-4, or, if the sensory rating indicates sufficient smoking, f) proceeding with the final packaging of the at least one distillate.
