One aspect of the invention relates to a maneuvering assistance system for preventing collisions when maneuvering a motor vehicle manually. The maneuvering system is set up to detect obstacles in the vehicle environment and, if an impending collision with an obstacle is detected, initiate a collision avoidance measure, for example emergency braking. The maneuvering assistance system is characterized in that the maneuvering assistance system is also set up to receive an input from the user in the event of a collision avoidance measure being triggered in an undesired manner by the driver at a triggering position of the motor vehicle. Position information relating to a position of the motor vehicle is saved in response to the input by the user.
