The invention relates to a method and to an installation for industrially growing, cultivating, harvesting, washing, packaging, labeling, and cold-storing plants, in particular lettuces, vegetables, or field crops of all types. The installation includes a building, which has a separate cultivation space (10) having conveying means in the form of cylindrical rollers, on each of which row of plant containers (1) of uniform size can be slowly conveyed over the length of the cultivation space (10) on, here, three tiers (A, B, C) over a cultivation period of the plants. On each tier, there are three to four levels having plant containers each having a size of 2 m x 1 m and a depth of 40 cm. 25 paths each consisting of a double row are arranged in such a way that said paths are separated by accessible walkways (7) having a width of approximately 80 cm. Sprinkling installations and heating and lighting means for heating and lighting the plants are installed above the plant containers (1). Further spaces for planting, harvesting, washing, drying, packaging, cold-storing the plants and for recycling the humus for a new cultivation period are integrated around the cultivation space (10).
