A number of embodiments are disclosed for converting neuronal current output by a vector x matrix multiplication (VMM) array into neuronal current-based time pulses and providing such pulses as input to another VMM array in an artificial neural network. A number of embodiments are disclosed for converting neuronal current-based time pulses into analog current or voltage values when an analog input to the VMM array is desired.
