The control device 110 comprises a timer module 114 and a central processing unit (CPU) 120 and is connected to a crankshaft position sensor 102. The CPU 120 is designed to recognize interrupts on each edge of a position signal that is received from the crankshaft position sensor 102, and to detect the engine position when the interrupt is received. The CPU 120 also initiates ignition and injection based on the detected engine position. The control device 110 is characterized in that it deactivates and activates interrupts from the timer module 114 on the basis of a detection of the predetermined event. In particular, the CPU 120 deactivates the generation of interrupts from the timer module 114 as soon as the motor position is detected, and activates the receipt of an interrupt generated by the timer module 114 when the predefined event occurs. The present invention results in fewer interrupts and less load on CPU 120, which in turn leads to better performance of controller 110.
