A computer-implemented method for comparing a simulation of a physical object with measurement data obtained in an experiment is provided. A finite element representation of a virtual object for interacting and restraining an evolution of the finite element representation of the physical object in the simulation is provided for a time step tk of the simulation. The method comprises determining, based on the measurement data of the physical object for the time step tk+i, (k+i)-th modification data for the virtual object in the time step tk+i-1. The physical object for the time step tk+i is determined based on the finite element representation of the physical object for tk+i-1, the finite element representation of the virtual object for tk+i-1 and the (k+i)-th modification data. Information is output on interaction of the virtual object with the finite element representation of the physical object.
