The invention concerns a respirator for the respiration of a living being comprising a printer (2),a gas dosing unit (5) and a pneumatic main line (4),conducts the breath gas to a patient interface, with the gas dosing unit (5) set up as an external air and/or oxygen and/or anaesthetic gas to the pneumatic main line (4), and the pressure generator (2) set up to promote breath gas to the pneumatic main line to the patient interface (9),where the gas dosing unit (5) is equipped to deliver certain quantities or volumes of breathing gas into the pneumatic main line (4), the respirator having a pulse damper (6), which pulse waves, starting from the gas inlet through the gas dosing unit (5),dampens or compensates.
