Preparation of cryogenic atoms and atom tips for filling an integrated optical waveguide into evanescent field traps

Embodiments of an integrated atom chip used to measure atoms are described.One or more magnetic traps integrated with an optical waveguide carved into an integrated atom chip facilitate the filling of atoms into the evanescent field optical trap of the optical waveguide to measure the atoms.Two or more stages of cooling are used to gradually cool the atoms to the final temperature from the initial temperature of the atom when the mode matched and filled into the evanescent field optical trap of the optical waveguide.
