PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Western-style toilet device and a method for controlling water retention in a Western-style toilet device, which suppresses urine from scattering around when urinating while standing. SOLUTION: In a Western-style toilet device provided with a trap, the trap is composed of a first trap portion provided in the toilet body and a second trap portion connected to the first trap portion. The first trap portion includes a first reservoir portion for storing filth odor blocking water, a first discharge pipe for discharging the water stored in the first reservoir portion to a second trap portion, and a first trap portion. The second trap portion is composed of a first valve provided in the discharge pipe of the above, and the second trap portion is stored in a second reservoir portion for storing water for blocking filth and odor and a second reservoir portion. It is composed of a second discharge pipe that discharges the collected water downstream of the second trap portion and a second valve provided in the second discharge pipe, and collects filth odor blocking water in the first trap portion.
