Techniques for deterministically tuning the emission frequencies of individual semiconductor photon sources, such as quantum dots, are described. The focused laser is directed at a film of a material that changes morphology when heated (eg, a phase-changing material that undergoes a change between crystalline and amorphous morphology) overlaid on a photonic membrane containing a photon source. The laser causes a local morphological change in the film, resulting in a change in the emission frequency of the photon source. [Selection diagram] 1A
