Systems and methods are described that enable interactive, interactive operation of real-time 3D virtual replicas and real objects. The system comprises: a persistent virtual world system in which at least one real-time 3D virtual replica of a real object is represented and comprising data structures stored and computed on a server; at least one corresponding real object coupled to the real-time 3D virtual replica via a network via a persistent virtual world system stored and computed on the server; and at least one user device connected to the real object via a network via a virtual world system stored and computed on the server. Virtually selecting and then validating changes on a real-time 3D virtual replica will have a real-time corresponding effect on the real object. Likewise, validating one or more changes to a real object has the effect of real-time corresponding real-time 3D virtual replicas.
