To provide a method of obtaining a concentrated composition of a long chain monovalent unsaturated fatty acid from a fat composition comprising a long chain monovalent unsaturated fatty acid and a long chain polyvalent unsaturated fatty acid, and a composition comprising a long chain monovalent unsaturated fatty acid in an amount of at least 70%.SOLUTION: There is provided a method of obtaining a concentrated composition of a long chain monovalent unsaturated fatty acid and a concentrated composition of a long chain polyvalent unsaturated fatty acid, comprising, a) a step of obtaining a mixed composition comprising a lithium salt of a long chain polyvalent unsaturated fatty acid and a lithium salt of a long chain monovalent unsaturated fatty acid by mixing a fat composition comprising not less than 5% of a 20 to 22C long chain polyvalent unsaturated fatty acid and not less than 15% of a 20-22C long chain monovalent unsaturated fatty acid with (i) an organic solvent selected from the group consisting of a 1-5C alcohol and a 2-10C ketone and (ii) a lithium salt at a temperature of 15 to 80°C, b) a step of decreasing the temperature of the mixed composition formed in the step a) so as to let the lithium salt of a long chain monovalent unsaturated fatty acid form a precipitate, and a step c) of obtaining a concentrated composition of a long chain monovalent unsaturated fatty acid from the precipitate and a concentrated composition of a long chain polyvalent unsaturated fatty acid from the solution.SELECTED DRAWING: None
