The method comprises: determining whether the current moment conforms to a preset detection opportunity (101); if so, sending an identity verification instruction (102); receiving speech information returned according to the identity verification instruction (103); extracting voiceprint features from the speech information, and matching the extracted voiceprint features with a voiceprint feature library, and when a matching result satisfies a preset condition, indicating that the identity of a driver is verified (104); and sending, to a user, prompt information indicating that the identity of the driver is verified (105). The driver identity verification method and apparatus and the electronic device have the advantages of improving the security of driver identity verification, and same do not rely on a verification environment and have universality.
