The invention relates to a system for generating methane from organic substances such as sludge, biomass, or plastics by means of hydrogenation and methanization while simultaneously generating the required hydrogen by means of electrolysis. The electrolysis is carried out by fuel cells under the same or comparable pressure and temperature conditions. The system is used to generate methane as base chemical products or energy carriers, LNG, and inorganic nutrients. The system is suitable for intermittently absorbing excess electric energy in terms of a sector coupling of power generation, energy carriers, and chemical raw material production.
