This disclosure provides assembly lines resistance identification via AC signal line and battery control. A vehicle battery system has a battery comprising a large number of cells switched in series, a collector rail electrically connected between a neighbouring pair of cells switched in series and circuits. The circuits inject a sinusoidal current wave form through the collector rail, obtain a size of a sinusoidal voltage wave form, which is contained by an overall voltage of the collector rail caused by the sinus current wave form,from a scanned and filtered version of the total voltage and digital data defining the sine wave form, obtain a resistance of the collector rail from the size of the sine wave form and a measured size of the sine wave form, obtain a current size through the traction battery from a DC portion of a spectrum of total voltage and the resistance of the collector rail and charge the battery according to the size of the current through the battery.
