The invention relates to a method for producing a relief-type decoration on a surface of a ceramic printing medium, comprising the steps of: a) providing a ceramic printing medium; b) dispensing drops of a fixing liquid by means of a plurality of nozzles of an ink-jet printer onto a part of the surface; c) depositing ceramic material in the form of a particles at least onto the dispensed fixing liquid and fixing the material by means of the fixing liquid, non-fixed ceramic material being removed, such that elevations of the relief-type decoration are formed; d) applying a specified single- or multi-colored image motif to the surfaces of the elevations by applying one or more inks having inorganic pigments to the surfaces of the elevations; e) baking the ceramic printing medium to produce a baked relief-type decoration on the surface of the printing medium; wherein, after step (c) and before step (d), a covering glaze, engobe or smaltobe, in the form of a suspension, is deposited onto the elevations by means of a dispensing device by spraying or pouring the same onto the corresponding surfaces, and is confined.
