摘要
10,327. Clark, M. May 5. Automatic instruments.-The invention consists in a machine for producing tunesheets either by copying another one, or by deriving the requisite selection of the punches by which the holes are produced direct from the instrument in which the music is played. The blank sheet B is clamped, together with the copy W, to a band C which travels between rollers, one of which is shown at D, and this receives a rapid step by-step motion from a pawl and ratchet. Taper pins c2 pass through holes in the copy sheet and, by spacing it accurately, tend to minimize the results of expansion or contraction. The blank B passes over a punching-block M and under a stripper M2, which prevents it from rising with the punches L. These are held by pins l in cavities in a plate K which oscillates about a shaft k. The plate also carries a series of slides P corresponding in number to the punches and provided with cavities p, so that, when a cavity is presented to the corresponding punch, the latter is not driven through the blank. Springs P1 cause the slides to keep this position except when they are moved by rods Z' connected to pneumatics V. These pneumatics are controlled by the copy sheet W, which passes over an adjustable tracker board s, and controls valves S' which are carried on spring arms s1 and uncover the ends of pneumatic tubes T. The tubes T are connected to tubes T' which control a pneumatic device for operating the bellows V. Transposition can be effected by connecting the tubes T to a block T which can be slid laterally opposite the ends of the tubes T'. The connection between the copy Wand the slides P may, alternatively, be electric. T" are tubes leading to a keyboard from which the pneumatics V can also be operated, the machine being thus used as a recorder. The keyboard may or may not sound corresponding notes, and a metronome operated by the ratchet-wheel which drives the band C enables the pla,yer to regulate the time according to the speed of the band. In a modification, the copy is on larger scale than the tune-sheet which is produced.
