摘要
20,575. La Cßmara, M. L. de, and Egana, F. R. Sept. 20. Materials, fibrous; raw materials, treating; boiling; bleaching; washing pulp; processes, compound.-Relates to a process for producing pulp from paper, pasteboard, &c. from sugar-cane trash and similar products, such as sorghum, or the waste stalks and leaves of maize, reeds, and other plants. The material is introduced into strong soda lye at about 60‹ C., and heated or digested for from 45 to 60 minutes. It is then washed, subjected to a current of sulphurous anhydride, again washed, and passed to the mill or decorticator, and used for making pasteboard. For making paper, the pulp may be bleached with chloride of lime, the operation being continued for at least twelve hours. In the washing operations, a system is adopted involving the use of gradually weaker and weaker lyes from previous operations, the most concentrated lyes being afterwards strengthened and used again in the boiling process.
