Numbering-apparatus.-Relates to numbering- machines for perforating or otherwise marking cheques, bills, and the like, and in which sells of dies G and matrices L are arranged on wheels H, and also to similar machines for embossing, indenting, stencil-cutting, printing, or otherwise indicating on paper or other material, and consists of means for operating the wheels H in order to effect the consecutive numbering or marking The wheels Hare carried on a fixed drum C formed with grooves E for the die heads, the proper line of which is actuated by means of a plunger X and a cam I on a shaft J provided with a handle M. Ratchets K are formed round the wheel H between the dies G, and each wheel is provided with a deep recess W, for actuation by a stepped pawl T on an arm S pivoted on the shaft J. A curved rack R on tho arm S gears with a quadrant Q on a pinion P, which gears with a quadrant N on the shaft J. The pawl may be held against the wheels by springs. In order to lessen wear, the pawl is lifted by means of a pin U and a cam-surface V. A counting-mechanism may be connected with the pawl.
