Liquid surface - treating compositions. - An aqueous solution of calcium chloride is obtained from the waste mother liquor of salt pans, which contains a large quantity of magnesium chloride. This is converted into calcium chloride by the addition of calcium hydrate, magnesia being precipitated. The solution of calcium chloride is conveyed by pipes to a barge or ship, fitted with tanks, to be transported to its destination. It is sprinkled on roads, floors, &c. to keep them moist and to prevent the formation of ice.
