Stays.-A jointed spring stay of the kind used for lifting up and letting down carriage heads is adapted for raising and supporting any kind of body or substance hinged to a platform or the like, and more particularly for raising the body of a motorvehicle -from the chassis. The stay comprises a supporting-leg 1 having a knuckle-joint 6 pivotally connected at each end to the frame and platform so as to fold when the body is lowered. A spring link 10 is pivoted to the leg and to the frame, so as to give the maximum amount, of support to the stay and to aid the raising of the body. In a modification, the upper ends of the legs are connected by a cross-bar having a crank-handle which is operated to lower the body equally and simultaneously on both sides.
