27,728. Spicknall, M. O., and White & Co., J. G. Dec. 5. Electric railways and tramways on the slot-circuit system, in which the conduit is arranged beneath the slots of one of the track rails. Conduits; points and switches.-Con-. sists in means for strengthening o r supporting the combined track-rail and conduit point tongue. The point tongue d, shown in side view and plan in Figs. 1 and 3 respectively, is carried by, and pivoted at e to, the cantilever c secured to the girder-like casting a. To provide further support for the tongue, a bar h is pivoted to the end of the cantilever, and is kept in contact with the tongue by the dovetail projections and corresponding recesses m. The tongues are connected for oscillatory movement by the projection n, which is so placed that both tongues move simultaneously through a distance equal to their width plus that of the slot. To reduce the stress on the cantilever, a removable support p, Figs. 3 and 5, is arranged near to its free end so as to fit within the slot o. The support is pivoted at u and normally kept in the slot of the cantilever by the spring v, its sides being shaped so that it can be easily deflected out of the way by a passing plough. To prevent the slot tongue from being tilted, a metal wedge r and plates s, t are arranged as shown. The extreme end of the conduit tongue is further supported by metal plates y, Fig. 7, attached to the rail flanges. The tongue d is extended backwards, as shown at f, Fig. 1, so that it can be controlled by a spring if intended to be used as an automatic trailing point.
