10,246. Mori, G. Mauri-. May 2. Motor road vehicles.-Relates to folding weatherscreens, with a look-out portion, for attachment to the front of the hoods of carriages or for use as a look-out shelter in structures generally. Fig. 2 shows one arrangement as applied to the hood of a carriage. The screen consists of two flexible portions 1, 3 and an intermediate rigid portion 2 which is wholly or partly transparent. When out of use, the screen folds about the hinges 4 into a vertical position as shown in Fig. 3, the hood being provided with a flexible section 22 which folds about the point 21 in order to give space for the folded screen. When applied to ordinary carriage hoods, without the section 22, the folded screen projects from the top of the hood. In the modification shown in Fig. 7, the screen consists of a single flexible sheet, with transparent portions, which rolls up automatically into a half-round casing 5 at the top of the hood. In either form, the lower end of the screen is provided with tabs 9 or like means for attaching it to the frame of the hood or structure or, in the case of a carriage, to the upper edge of the leg-protecting apron 6. Fig. 9 shows an improved form of leg-protecting apron for use with the screen. The upper edge is provided with a stiffening-rod 7 the ends of which are bent outwards so as to embrace the frame of the hood, and the edges of the side flaps 10 are stiffened with elastic metallic tubes jointed at 14 by special hinges which enable the flaps to be folded. Fig. 10 shows another form of apron in which the fabric is supported on hinged frames 17, 18, 19 which can be folded about the hinge 20 towards the back of the box seat. When applied to high-speed vehicles, the screen, instead of being oblong in shape as shown in Fig. 2 may be wedge-shaped in plan, in order to reduce atmospheric resistance. Figs. 12 and 14 show in detail the special form of hinge employed at 14, Fig. 9, and 20, Fig. 10, for the leg protector. It consists of two tubes 18x, 19x jointed together at 22 so that they can be closed together in one direction only. The tubes 18x, 19x are fitted telescopically in or upon the ends of the stiffening - tubes of the apron flaps, so that the stiffening-tubes can rotate on them in order to allow the folding inwards of the flaps.
