Clamps; holding-tools.- A plumber's tool for holding unions, nipples, bosses, collars, or like objects while preparing and soldering them to pipes or the like comprises a triangular member C slidable along the flat end A' of the bar A and urged forwards by a helical spring D attached to an adjustable collar E, and a pair of spring, or pivoted spring- actuated, jaws F fixed at F2. In use, the apex of the member C is engaged in the end of the object, such as a nipple G, Fig. 3, and the handle B is pressed forwards until the ends F1 of the jaws F are in position to be engaged with internal screw-threads on the nipple itself or on a sliding collar H thereon, or with external threads J1 on the union J, as shown in Fig. 4, the jaws springing outwards in the former case, and inwards in the latter. If preferred, mechanical means such as a screw M, Fig. 4, may be provided for holding the object more firmly.
