Presses and moulding-machines with fixed mould tables or moulds.-In presses for making perforated bricks, of the kind in which perforating-plugs work through a movable perforated plate which is pressed on to the brick during the insertion and withdrawal of the plugs by means of springs interposed between the plate and the press head, the plate 5 is carried by a number of bolts 8 passing through the press head 6 and each encircled by a spring 10 so as to obtain a more uniform distribution of pressure. The perforating-plugs 2 are carried by a plate 1 secured to the press head. The springs 10 are located in hollow bosses 11 and are encircled by guards 12 adapted to telescope into the bosses 11. Modifications are described illustrating the application of the invention to horizontal hand and power presses. When it is desired to perforate a series of bricks simultaneously, the mould is divided by partitions 38, Fig. 10. The bricks may be perforated both horizontally and vertically by means of plugs 39, Fig. 11, carried by a cross-bar 41 and operated after the withdrawal of the plugs 2 but before the withdrawal of the movable plate 5.
