[Cognate Application, 14,033/12.] Tracks and grounds.-Turf for making lawns, greens, &c. is obtained by sowing grass seeds on a textile or like material, keeping it moist until the seeds have germinated, and then treating with manure to promote root growth. In one arrangement, seeds are sown on strips of paper pegged down in position on the levelled and manured ground which is to be turfed. Manure may be incorporated with the paper, and the seeds covered with sterilized soil, which is kept moist. Manure is applied when the grass begins to grow. In a modification, grass is grown on flannel, which is afterwards rolled up and transferred to the site of the lawn. The grass may be grown under glass or in the open, the flannel being kept moist with water or liquid manure. Soil may be rubbed into the fabric, with or without manure. Grass or fibre matting, woollen or cotton fabric, or the like may be substituted for the paper or flannel. The material may be selected to decay slowly or rapidly. According to Provisional Specification 14,035/12, an adhesive may be used to retain the seeds on the fabric.
