Treating ores to facilitate concentration.-The selective action of mica, schist, shale, and like greasy material in ores and slimes is suspended or destroyed by passage through a moving mass of coarsely ground siliceous or other particles. The subsequent separation of the metalliferous constituents is thereby facilitated. The movement of the bed may be produced by means of a jig, or horizontal stirrers or agitators may be used; or the pulp may percolate through a rotating tube containing the particles. In the case of sulphide and tin ores, caustic soda or other alkali may be added to the pulp before passage through the mass.
