113,888. Misquith, W. F. July 18, 1917. Harmonics, producing; pedals; sound-intensifiers.-Harmonic effects are produced by touching the strings at the middle or other fraction of their length by studs on spring-controlled bars actuated from a pedal or draw-stop. As shown in Figs 3 and 4, the bars 7 are preferably formed in sections each fixed upon rods 8 passing through holes in a plate 9 and held by springs 11 between collars 12 and nuts 10. The plates 9 slide upon guide-pins 16 fixed to the framing of the instrument and are actuated from a pedal 13 by cams 17 on a shaft 18. For the overstrung portion, an additional bar 7a, Fig. 5, is arranged to press downwards on the upper set of strings. The studs may be adjustable in slots in the bars, and may be arranged to touch only one of the two or. three strings for each note. The chamber 32 may serve as a sound-box. The pedal or drawstop may control electric, magnetic, pneumatic, or gravity mechanism.
