Stands.-A gun-director, theodolite, or other surveying, nautical, astronomical, or scientific instrument is secured to a stand or support by a clamping-member pressed against the stem or foot of the instrument by wedging-action. The sliding clamping-plug E, Fig. 4, is normally held out of action by a spring F and is moved into clamping position by rotating a collar G provided with an eccentric groove H. The tripod legs are secured to the stand head by three pairs of balls K, two distance-pieces L, and a wedge M adjusted by a screw P.
