Rotors.-A rotor for a multi-stage turbine, compressor, &c. comprises a number of disks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, each shaped as a body of uniform strength from a solid mass without any central bore, and the disks are coupled together by means of gripping-joints provided as near to the axis as possible. Several forms of coupling are illustrated. Thus, a hollow boss 8 on the disk 2 may be shrunk upon the solid boss 7 of the adjacent disk 1, or the inter-engaging bosses 9, 13 may be screwthreaded. A flange 16 on one disk may press inwards on the hollow boss 14 of another disk to secure rigidity. Again, the bosses 21, 22 may be coupled by a two-part ring 23 bound by wire 24. Transverse bolts 31, 32 may pass through the bosses.
