Potato-planters. - A machine for delivering potatoes uniformly into two furrows simultaneously comprises a wheeled frame, two oppositely rotated flanged drums provided with fingers, a container above the frame, two shoots or spouts leading from the container to the drums, and two other spouts to receive the potatoes from the drums and deliver them into the furrows. The flanged drums B. B1 are loosely mounted on a central longitudinal shaft b and are driven in opposite directions by the bevel and chain gearing shown. The chain gearing may be provided with a free-wheel clutch, and the bevel-wheel E may be thrown into and out of operation by moving its tubular shaft along the cross-shaft F by means of a wheel on the tubular shaft. The container K is carried by a frame L mounted on the main frame A, and is provided with plates k, k' sloping down to an arched or angled piece k2 from which the potatoes pass to shoots M, M1 on opposite sides of the machine. The shoots M, M1 lead to the drums B, B1 and are fitted with adjustable end pieces m having upwardly turned prongs m2 from which the potatoes are lifted singly by curved fingers b1, b2 on the drums B, B'. The potatoes are delivered by the drums into shields n, n1 and pass into shoots N, N1 bent outwardly so as to deposit them behind the ground wheels,. which have rounded treads. The machine is provided with a rear platform O, a seat P, and a depending member R, carrying curved covering blades S having semicircular openings s in their lower edges. According to the Provisional Specification, the covering blades are adjustable vertically, and the lower ends of the shoots leading to the flanged drums are fitted with spring flaps which may be opened automatically at intervals.
