Vapour apparatus, arrangements of.-A mercury vapour rectifier is provided with means for preventing reduction of the exciting current when the rectifier is running idle. In the arrangement shown, the exciting anodes E1, E2 of the rectifier G are supplied with current from auxiliary secondary windings Q' on the transformer T feeding the rectifier. The exciting current normally passes through a choking-coil D, but the latter is shortcircuited by a switch S when the load current falls below a determined value.
