212,997. Wade, H., (Dixon Co., H. L.). Dec. 21, 1922. Charges, conveying,-An annealing leer for plate glass is formed with an oven portion in line with the cooling tunnel, and mechanical means are provided for advancing the plates through the oven on to the usual lifting and .pulling rods of the tunnel. In the construction shown pusher members 37 are carried transversely between a pair of rods 19 extending through the oven portion, and connected at one end to the pulling-rods by a pin and socket connection, which allows a limited vertical movement of the rods 19. Each pusher member consists of an angle iron having its free edge 38 bevelled to pass under a plate, and an asbestos or like strip 39 for contact with the edge. The rods 19 are supported on rollers 21 mounted on carriers 22 in turn supported for a limited longitudinal movement in box-like hangers 24, which are lifted vertically at the beginning of the return stroke of the rods by levers 28 - - 32 actuated by the lifting-rods of the tunnel. The movement of the carriers 22 on the hangers 24 allows the rods 19 to make a return movement of a length somewhat greater than the distance between adjacent pushers. The pulling-rods are actuated by a power cylinder and a rack, the latter being arranged to compress a spring, which, at the beginning of the return movement, assists in freeing the pushers 37 from the plates.
