Charging batteries.-The needle x of a voltmeter e shunted across the accumulator a is used to permit the switching on of the charging current to the accumulator only if the accumulator is not fully charged. The cam n, which may be carried by the hour arbor of an electric clock, permits a lever o to descend periodically. The lever is linked to a second lever j carrying contacts h, i for bridging contacts g, g1 in the supply circuit. When the accumulator is fully charged the voltmeter needle is swung to the right and coacts with an extension j1 on the lever j which is thus prevented from descending, a spring t permitting this lever to remain stationary whilst the lever o descends. The needle is carried in yielding bearings y to prevent damage thereto.
