[Class 103 (iii).] Relates to apparatus for the automatic exchange of staffs, tablets &c., between a locomotive and track post of the kind described in Specification 17004/06, [Class 103, Railway &c. vehicles], and comprising on the locomotive and on the post one set of pivotal arms 13, 17 adapted to support hoops 5, 6 holding the staffs 9, 10 and also a second set of arms 28, 33 carrying automatic receivers for the hoops, the several arms being secured on vertical pivotal rods 14, 18 and capable of being set in an operative position at right-angles to the track or in a folded or non-operative position parallel to the track. According to the invention, the receiver 31 on the locomotive is connected by a pivoted arm 33 to the arm 13 that carries the hoop 5 and by an adjustable pivoted link 35 to an extension 37 of the rod 14, so that, when the driver, by operating a lever 19, swings the apparatus to its operative position, the said receiver 31 rotates on the arm 33 independently of the latter's movement, and finally sets itself in the reverse direction, shown in full lines, Fig. 1, to its initial inoperative position, shown in dotted lines. Rotation of the arm 33 with the arm 13 is effected by passing the arm 33 through a guide 34 depending from the arm 13. The receivers 31 are of the kind comprising pivoted tongues 29 adapted to be lifted by the contact of the hoops 5, 6 and then to drop into contact with fingers 27 to retain the hoops. A lamp 38 with differently coloured glasses 39, 40 is mounted on the track post 3 to indicate to the driver the condition of the track apparatus.
