360,425. Naval gun turrets. VICKERS-ARMSTRONGS, Ltd., PEARSON, E. C., and SCOTT, H. G. A., Vickers House, Broadway, Westminster. June 4, 1930, No. 17295. (Class 92 (i).] Relates to inter-turret danger signalling apparatus for naval guns, of the kind comprising switch arms which represent the guns in miniature and which complete electric circuits to operate warning signals in the respective turrets when endangering conditions occur. According to the invention, a floating rack coaxial with the training axis of each gun is employed to convey the true elevation to the switch arms, a movement equal and opposite to the training movement being conveyed to each elevation drive shaft proceeding from each floating rack. In the apparatus shown, A, A1 and B, B1 are the twin guns in the turrets, C, C1 the " endangering " and C x, C1 x the " endangered " switch arms corresponding to the guns A, A1 and DD1, DxD1x the corresponding switch arms for the guns B, B1. The switch arms are pivotally mounted on supports E, F which are trained from the guns through worm gears E1, F1 the switch arms being elevated from the guns by coaxial rack sleeves G12, H12 and J12, K12 respectively. In order to eliminate the training movements of a turret from the elevation drive to the switch arms, the gun elevating gear G x drives a floating rack G7 and a pinion G8 engaging therewith drives the sleeve rack G12 through a differential gear G9 the planetary pinions of which are driven from the training rack E5. The rack sleeves H12, J12, K12 are similarly driven. In order to prevent damage to the mechanism by elevating or training the guns beyond the contacting positions of the switch arms, the rods J, K, G, H which connect the sleeve racks J12, K12, G12, H12 with the switch arms, and the shafts F, E which train the switch arms are fitted with resilient couplings such as J x, K x, F x. Within each turret are warning devices comprising electric lamps which illuminate windows TL2, TR2 marked " train left " or " train right " respectively when the switch arms contact with one another. Also the turrets are furnished with buzzers or other audible signals, current indicators T1, and turret position indicators Y, Y1 driven from transmitters Y2, Y3 on the worm shafts E2, F2 respectively.
