Cigarette-making machines.-In a machine in which the tobacco is spread out into a fleece over a sieve band subjected to suction, the suction action is interrupted at the point where delivery from the sieve band is required, by placing close under the tobacco fleece a second impervious band. The tobacco fleece is formed underneath a sieve band 5 by upward suction produced by a suction box 39, the tobacco fibres being straightened by an air jet 14 and reduced to the required thickness by a brushing-roller 16. In advance of the delivery end of the sieve band there is arranged an impervous band 19, over which the tobacco is delivered to the usual grooved conveyer 23.
