[Class 146 (ii).] A mechanical device for the translation of one language into another comprises a plurality of rotatable word-carrying discs mounted on a plurality of spaced axles in a casing, the exterior of which is fitted with windows through which may be seen the translation of words or phrases inscribed on the exterior and/or on other discs mounted within the casing. The words are radialiy inscribed on the casing A and on the discs F, and the axles D are provided with arrows E, which are adjusted to point to the required words when the foreign translation appears at the windows B. The subject and verb discs overlap, and the former carries both the subject and the verb ending, a slot being provided between these two so that verb roots on the verb disc may be positioned therebetween. The back of the casing may be similarly provided with words and windows, and further discs may be rigidly attached to the backs of the first set of discs, whereby when the arrows E are set to any words on the front of the casing, the same words in three other languages appear at the windows and on the back of the casing, arrows E being provided on both ends of the axles. Alternatively the back of the casing may be used for a larger number of words, or may be formed without apertures to provide space for a complete list of verb endings.
